Reduce Overwhelm

Building affect and sensation tolerance can be important for emotional regulation, especially when dealing with stress, trauma, or overwhelming emotions. Here are five somatic exercises designed to help you build your tolerance for both affect and sensation:

When you feel overwhelmed or stuck take a moment to connect with your body and your breath. To reduce the freeze response follow this video with a secondary exercise from the flight or fight category. You must climb through the sympathetic (fight or flight energy) nervous system before you will find safety in Ventral Vagal.

Warm Eyes

Warm Eyes

When you feel completely overwhelmed and stuck. Take a moment to return to your body. In this state, it is common to dissociate or go away from embodiment.
