What to Expect After Losing “Your Person”

Welcome back to Wake the F* Up! Our theme for July is "The Aftermath of Loss and What to Expect in Grief."

The early stages of loss hurt so damn bad because most of us live our lives without embodiment or awareness. You've been living with a focus that has nothing to do with what matters to you, and you are filled with regrets and sorrow. Whether you are going through a divorce, the death of a spouse, the end of a relationship, the loss of expectations, losing yourself, betrayal, or even moving to a new place, grief accompanies the farewell to what once was and ushers in a new path toward acceptance.

In this episode, David delves into the healing process – one of our favorite topics here on Wake the F*ck Up.

Alix and David share their experiences with grief, discussing what you can expect when faced with such profound loss. When you experience the death of someone deeply connected to you, it often forces a stark realization of how much you missed by living in a state of distraction. Although we might appear awake, our daily actions are frequently driven by external demands, aiming to please others and avoid past failures. In this state, we strive to be what we think others want us to be.

However, when faced with soul-crushing loss, such as death, your world fundamentally shifts. You may have spent years trying to be the "good" version of yourself, but loss pushes you beyond those boundaries, often leaving you feeling isolated from the outside world.

You might be tempted to revert to societal norms, but true healing begins when you reconnect with your body and acknowledge its wisdom. This evolution starts with the metaphorical death of everything you once knew, which is deeply painful as it reveals the truth: all suffering stems from abandoning ourselves in our quest to be loved and connected to others. Yet, through this shattering experience, we learn that healing begins by returning to our true selves. Fiercely loving ourselves prevents further loss and paves the way for a new life.

Don't miss this episode. Find your tribe and heal in grief.
